Strike avoided as talks resume

LAST-ditch talks yesterday between union leaders and Chief Minister Frank Walker averted the threat of a strike by public sector workers next week.

As a result of the discussions held at Cyril Le Marquand House, it seems certain any threat of industrial action by thousands of staff will be withdrawn, with unions and the States side agreeing to restart stalled pay talks next week. And it would appear that indications were given during the talks, the States side may be about to improve the 2.4% offer that has been made to all public sector workers.
