Football:Scottish charge six points clear after putting ‘Pies through Springfield mincer

JERSEY SCOTTISH took full advantage of a fixture against basement club Magpies to stretch six points clear in Coca-Cola Combination Division I last night.

Playing under the lights at Springfield Scottish dazzled Magpies to run out 14-0 winners, with prolific striker Ross Crick helping himself to five and Reuben Legge to four.

Scottish, with a massive goal-difference advantage, have now played two games more than nearest rivals Grouville, who they were scheduled to meet at Le Bolivot last Saturday.

That match was lost to the weather and Grouville, perhaps surprisingly, have agreed to forgo home advantage in that vital clash and play Scottish under lights at Les Quennevais on 27 February.

Said Scottish’s boss Pat Brennan: ‘The boys were looking forward to the Grouville game and were disappointed it was called off.

We’re playing as well as anyone at the moment.

I just hope it’s the same in a month’s time!’ Brennan gave the understrength Magpies great credit for not throwing in the towel last night as his team ran riot, with other goals coming from Dave Brodie (two), Jack Boyle, Scott Devlin and Paul Duxbury.

Magpies, who have lost their last eight league games since an opening victory, appear to have little chance of staging a late recovery, even though they still have 21 points to play for.
