Fatal crash: Driver in court
Thursday 25th January 2007, 12:00AM GMT.
A MAN has appeared in court following the double road death in Grouville early on Monday.
Restaurant worker Duarte Luis (24) reserved his plea in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to a charge of driving while unfit through drink in Rue à la Don. Two male passengers in his car were killed when it hit the pillars and railings of a property near Grouville Parish Hall. The charge, presented by Centenier Charles Dix, alleges that Luis had a reading of 128 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. Three other male passengers in the car who had been injured were still receiving treatment and have not yet been interviewed. Luis, of La Rocque, who had been in custody until yesterday’s appearance, was released after the prosecution said that it had no objection to bail, subject to conditions. These include the surrender of his passport, his exclusion from licensed premises, no contact with the three passengers and no driving by the defendant.
