Inter-insular duty in Guernsey

Saturday 27th January 2007, 12:00AM GMT.

JERSEY’S junior clubs’ inter-insular side face a tough task against Guernsey tomorrow after a poor turnout in the trials last weekend, when they lost heavily to a Jersey RFC Development side.

Coach Rad Montgomery has been able to strengthen the squad, although he admits to being disappointed with the apparent apathy shown in not attending trials.

Montgomery, and assistant coach Gareth Davies, will adopt a strict game plan and will play to the expected heavy conditions.

‘We’ve not a bad set of forwards, so we’ll give them a game, though I expect Guernsey, with a strong St Jacques base, to be really up for it.’ The match kicks-off at Foote’s Lane at 1 pm tomorrow.

Jersey: Ian Burrell, Sean Quéripel, Howard Phillips, Mark Harris, Aaron O’Brien, Owen Woolgar, David Felton, Russell Holland, Pat Dean (capt), Wayne Boschat, Andrew Blake, Tim de Gruchy, Tom Faulkner, Andy Hobbs, Will O’Brien, Terry Pallott, Ian Tait and Richard Stevens.

Jersey RFC Academy stand-off Michael Le Bourgeois, just returned from the touch World Cup, starts for Hampshire U17s away to Surrey at Warlingham RFC tomorrow, with clubmates Paul Mourant (prop) and Oliver Harwood (scrum-half) starting on the bench.
