THREE points from their final four matches and the Portuguese Club of Jersey will regain Coca-Cola Combination Division I status.
The Portuguese retained their five-point advantage over Jersey Wanderers, from two matches more played, after both won at the weekend, Portuguese 7-3 at bottom-placed St John while Wanderers returned 2-1 victors from one-from-bottom St Lawrence.
Carlos Bruno Sousa (two), Manny Fernandes (two), Antonio Antunes, Kamil Adamczuk and Freddie Mendes netted for Portuguese and Colin Dumond (two) and Jamie Smith for St John.
Martin Saunders registered for St Lawrence and Marc Reid and Chris Maguire for Wanderers, the latter with his first touch after coming on as a substitute.
Lukas Kanior, Ged O’Donoghue and Carl Winn scored Jersey Nomads’ goals for a 3-0 success at St Martin/SCF, the latter failed to score in game for only the second time this season.
Fifth-placed St Clement closed the gap to one point on Sporting Academics, the team immediately above them, after they thrashed the Accies 7-1 at St Clement.
Matt Scriven and Mark Anderson hit doubles and John Murray, James Walton and Beau Waugh singles for the winners, Jamie Savory replied.
Beeches Old Boys and St Brelade shared eight goals at the FB Fields where Andy McKnight and Peter Le Cuirot notched a brace apiece for the Old Boys and Fintan Kennedy, Eric Wilmotte, Max Arnold and Stephen Reed singles for the Saints.
Division I Reserves leaders Grouville had a profitable day despite not kicking a ball! Second-placed Rozel Rovers featured in a goal-draw against Jersey Wanderers at the Hockey Club while third-placed St Peter shared two goals with Sporting Academics at Les Quennevais.
Juniors Tommy Wigley and Aaron Parkinson scored for Accies and St Peter respectively.
Fourth and fifth-placed First Tower and St Brelade were both beaten, Tower 3-1 by Jersey Scottish at Les Quennevais and St Brelade 2-1 at home by Trinity.
Reuben Legge (two) and Dane Sutton scored for Scottish and Wayne Shales for Tower.
Bottom-placed Trinity collected only their second win of the season following goals by Anthony Greig and Leon Huchet.

St Ouen, who have two games in hand, moved back to the top of Division II Reserves, on goal-difference above St Martin/SCF, following a 3-1 home victory against St Clement.
John Evans, Ben Burton and Ross Marquis bagged the hosts’ goals with Tom Wilson replying.
St Paul’s moved into third place, on goal-difference above St Clement, after juniors Declan Sowney (two) and Ollie Gallagher scored three of their goals in a 5-2 win at St Saviour against Beeches Old Boys.
Robbie Whittaker and Paul McGinness also notched for the Saints, who trailed 2-1 at half time, and Paul Skinner and Kurt Miller for the Old Boys.
Jersey Nomads defeated Beeches Old Boys 2-0 to move above the team they beat and into fifth spot.
On the mark at the FB Fields were Martyn Jubb and Chris Gallagher.
Division C champions Grouville, who have a game in hand, moved into second place a point behind St Brelade after scoring five times without reply against St Lawrence at Le Boulivot.
On target were Jan Buttle-Ilvin, Steve Ashton, Nick Walmsley, Simon Stratford and Sam Dustow.
Three players scored hat-tricks in Sporting Academics’ 8-3 success against Rozel Rovers at Les Quennevais.
Sean Anderton bagged all the Rovers’ goals while Ged Horgan scored four times, Justin Spencer-Burrows three and Aaron Scott once for the Accies.
