States boost for fulfilment
Thursday 1st February 2007, 12:00AM GMT.
THE Island’s fulfilment industry got a boost yesterday when the States agreed to appoint an e-commerce tsar to give the industry a stronger voice and a higher profile.
Members supported a proposal from Economic Scrutiny panel chairman Deputy Geoff Southern to centralise policy regarding the fulfilment industry under a dedicated post for e-commerce.
The new executive in charge of e-commerce will not only be responsible for offering greater political support to the industry but also for promoting economic diversification by growing the sector.
Members also agreed that the new e-commerce executive should undertake a review of the fulfilment industry to obtain a comprehensive understanding of its current and potential role in the Island’s economy.
It was also agreed that an appeals procedure be put in place for all ministerial decisions in relation to business applications.
