U14 joy for Wanderers FC

Wednesday 28th February 2007, 12:00AM GMT.

SUNDAY’S rain relented long enough for Jersey Wanderers’ under-14s to clinch the Jersey Telecom Division I title at Les Quennevais on Sunday afternoon.

Indeed, it was bright sunshine when the championship was fittingly clinched with a victory over their nearest rivals St Paul’s, the 5-2 result containing good football from both sides.

The tall and cultured Kamen Nafkha scored twice being being replaced late on with the game won, while Ryan Connan, Jamie Mourant and Sam Dawkins also notched scores for the new champions.

John Tardivel and Daniel Tostevin replied for St Paul’s.

In the only other U14 Division I match to survive the weather, St Clement A beat First Tower Utd 7-2, with Kurtis Guthrie scoring four times.

Reegan Russell, Alex Thompson and Chris Levesley scored singles for the winners, with Sam Crabtree and Nick Carpenter getting Tower’s consolations.

The U12 programme almost totally escaped the weather’s clutches, with only one scheduled match not played.

There were some pleasing close matches to offset a couple of huge scorelines; Luke Aubin scoring the only goal of the game to give Rozel Rovers A victory over St John in the White Group, while Adam Falle and Matthew Perraudin strikes gave Rozel a 2-1 win over St Clement B in the Blue Group.

Closer still was the shared honours between St Peter B and St Ouen, also in the Blue Group.

Harrison Gollop and Franois Thébault scored for St Peter, with Tom Anderson and Callum Coote replying for St Ouen.

Three goals from Luke Philpott (two) and David Blampied just failed to save Jersey Wanderers A from a 4-3 defeat at the hands of St Clement A in the Red Group, but Wanderers’ B side had no such problems with a 13-1 win over First Tower in White Group.

Wanderers’ Chris Mallett, Fraser Barlow and Jack Dallas-Chapman all claimed hat-tricks, with Joel Stevens scoring twice and Stuart Emmanuel, and Eli Smith once each.

St Paul’s Jay Giles equalled the top individual score of the day – four – in his team’s 10-3 win over St Brelade in White Group.

A double from Dominic Travers and singles from Billy Hickling, Stephen Byrne, Fabian Frankson and a St Brelade defender also found their way onto St Paul’s scoresheet, while Jack Maton (two) and Christian Shepherd replied for St Brelade.
