Minister finds shortage of dummies in the States
Saturday 31st March 2007, 12:00AM BST.
LIGHT-fingered States Members made off with five of the 12 dummy credit-card-sized driving licences that were produced for Wednesday’s States debate.
The disappearance of the licences prompted Transport Minister Guy de Faye to fire off an e-mail to all States Members trying to find the perpetrators, triggering a bizarre sequence of correspondence between politicians. Deputy de Faye said that the 12 dummies – one for each parish – were produced to show what the new licences would look like and were passed around the States Chamber during Wednesday’s debate. They all featured pictures of him. But he had to e-mail all Members when only seven came back and said some Members had asked to keep them as souvenirs of the debate. He was worried that in the wrong hands they could be abused. ‘They are returning to me. Some are still on their way,’ said Deputy de Faye, who added that the licences for St Clement, St Helier, St John, St Saviour and Trinity were still at large.
