Goose Green: It’s 102 homes
Tuesday 3rd April 2007, 12:00AM BST.
DANDARA’s plans for 102 homes on Goose Green Marsh have been approved.
After years of speculation about the future of the controversial St Lawrence site, and in the face of stern opposition in the parish, Environment Minister Freddie Cohen has today announced that the development can go ahead. Despite efforts by parish Constable Geoffrey Fisher to block development by calling for a committee of inquiry, Senator Cohen said that his decision had been made on 21 March. It was not made public because a final condition, relating to noise from Jersey Steel, had not been resolved until now. But echoing his comments at a public hearing on 20 March, Senator Cohen said that it would have been unfair to refuse permission when fields 848, 851 and 853 had been zoned for 97 houses in the 2002 Island Plan.
