Le Fèvre roars back in snooker final

Saturday 7th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.

BEECHES Old Boy Karl Le Fèvre defeated 2004 finalist Kurt Jones 4-2 to regain the Island snooker title on Thursday night.

Although not a classic match at the Jersey Mechanics’ Institute, Le Fèvre had to overcome some excellent Jones potting as the 40-year-old Hector’s Chip Ship fryer opened up a two-frame advantage.

But with a 100 per cent record in three Island finals to preserve, Le Fèvre clawed his way back to record his fourth Island success.

‘It was tough,’ admitted Le Fèvre, a 36-year-old position keeper in treasury.

‘When it came down to the nitty-gritty I was able to draw on my experience from previous finals and I think that was the difference in the end.

‘Two-down I was well out of it.

I’d lost my composure because Kurt was keeping me out the game and some of his long potting was awesome.

‘My safety at times was not great but thankfully I got back to win the third frame and I was back in the match.’ Unseeded Jones said: ‘It’s disappointing to lose, but it’s great to be involved in big match like that.

Karl is a great player and he worked hard to get back.

Overall I was happy with my game.

‘I kept him out in the first two frames and after that they were all close frames and they could have gone either way.’
