Muratti football: Brodie on the mend
Saturday 7th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY Scottish midfielder Dave Brodie will retain the captain’s armband for this year’s Cimandis Muratti away to Guernsey next month.
Brodie captained Jersey last year under former manager Peter Vincenti and he will be captain again under new boss Dave Kennedy.
Brodie has trained and played this week for the first time in six years since picking up a hamstring injury playing for his club.
Kennedy, who will vacate the Jersey Scottish coaching job after the Upton Park Trophy match on 21 April, said: ‘It’s great to see Dave back training and playing; the influence he has on the players around him is tremendous to see.
He is a good captain and I’ve every confidence in him which is why he will be captain again.
‘I’ve got 33 players to look at before I announce Muratti and Island Games squads in two weeks’ time.
‘It’s only a couple of weeks then to the Muratti but I believe that leaves plenty of time.
Players are still training and playing for their clubs, in two weeks’ time I will have nine training sessions to work with them before the Muratti and I believe that’s enough.’ Kennedy’s current large squad will train at the IJ Bathe Field in St Saviour on Tuesday evening.
The Muratti and Island Games squads will be chosen from the following players: Paul Aitken (Jersey Scottish), Stuart André (St Paul’s), Chris Andrews (Jersey Wanderers), Andrew Bird (St Paul’s), David Brodie (Jersey Scottish), John Beatson (Trinity), Jack Cannon (St Peter), Chris Conning (St Peter), Kevan Crowell (St Peter), Ross Crick (Jersey Scottish), Scott Devlin (Jersey Scottish), Ryan Durand (St Peter), Paul Duxbury (Jersey Scottish), Ashley Dodd (Trinity), Jon Fitzmaurice (Trinity), Alex Jeffries (Grouville), Craig Leitch (St Paul’s), Mark Lucas (First Tower), Dave Le Roux (Trinity), Russell Le Feuvre (Grouville), Craig Northedge (Grouville), James O’Haire (Rozel Rovers), Bradley Russell (St Peter), Craig Russell (St Paul’s), Joel Speight (St Peter), Jimmy Styles (Trinity), James Scott (Jersey Scottish), Peter Vincenti (St Peter), Scott Walsh (St Peter), Marco Vieira (St Peter), Liam Walshe (Grouville), Luke Watson (Jersey Scottish) and Peter Warrell (Grouville).
