Three out of three for JFA U14s
Saturday 7th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.
THE JFA’s Capita Centre of Excellence Year 9 team won their first three matches of a tournament in the the Isle of Wight yesterday.
Victories over Oakfield (2-1), Bridgeport (3-1) and Sandown (4-1) have them poised for tomorrow’s semi-finals, with two group games, of 30 minutes duration, still to play today against Elmfield and Gurnard.
Strikers Andrew Gee and Jamie Bowkett scored within a minute of each other for Jersey to come from behind to beat Oakfield in the opener, while the centre’s boys carved out 3-0 leads in both the other matches.
Gee scored twice against Bridgeport, with Bowkett also on target again.
Bridgeport ‘won’ the second-half with a late goal, though excellent possession play from the Island youngsters had made the result a formality.
Jersey continued to impress in their third match, against Sandown, with Gee again on target along with Clayton Romeril (two – and one of them a real screamer) and Ryan Connon from the penalty spot.
The final matches will be played on Easter Monday.
Squad: Jamie Bowkett, Ryan Connon, Ciaran Devereux, Tom Dines, Paco Follon, Andrew Gee, Curtiss Hinault, George Houzé, Lawrence Gillat, Harrison Jukes, Aidan McGuire, Joshua Richardson, Clayton Romeril, William Southall and Nick Wildman.
The Year-9s are being accompanied by a host of parents and centre coaches Rob Cameron, Billy McEwan and Steve Proffitt.
