MOTOR SPORT – Jersey Motor Cycle and Light Car Club Hill Climb: A huge crowd turned out to watch the first hill climb of the year at Bouley Bay yesterday, with 15 UK Ferraris racing alongside the local entrants.
Despite the sunshine the track temperature was never warm enough to create record-breaking conditions and unfortunately no records fell.
Bruce Dingle once again took fastest time of the day of the motorbikes with a time of 44.20, just 37 hundredths outside of the all time bike record.
Glynn Moignard set the fastest time of the day in his OMS racing car with an excellent run of 42.93secs which Christina Holley equalled later on driving a Force racing car while Jason Mourant set a new personal best time of 43.37 to chase them home.
Several drivers didn’t get it right and ended up with damaged bodywork.
Ian Hunt lost control of his Jaguar E Type exiting Les Platons corner making contact with a tree while Len Amy damaged his new Mallock MK32 early in the day and was unable to continue.
SHOOTING – Easter success for de la Haye: The fine weather drew 38 competitors in Lecq Clay Target Club’s Easter 75 Bird Sporting with Jon de la Haye coming through a shoot off with Richard Le Brun to take high gun with 63 ex 75.
Results – Class A: 1, Richard Le Brun, 63; 2, Dave Le Rendu, 62; =3, Ernie Le Brun and Graham Le Cornu, 54.
Class B: 1, Martin Shales, 58; 2, Clive Green, 56; =3, Freddie Barette, Paul Cragg and Wayne Shales, 53.
Class C: 1, Adam Ward, 57; 2, Mick Brown, 55; =3, Dean Lawrence and Peter Quimby, 47.
Ladies: 1, Kay Cragg.
Juniors: 1, Harry Hodder, 55; 2, Tony Ward, 50; 3, Ashley Davey, 46.
Veteran: 1, Albert Able, 40.
GOLF – Robin flies to a win: Royal Jersey’s Gyles Robin came in two under par with 72 to win the Standard Bank Junior Golf’s Gothard Trophy at the Royal Jersey Golf Club on Sunday.
La Moye’s Chris Young was second on 75 with Royal Jersey’s Will Taylor finished third on 77.
SHOOTING – Champions miss the mark: League champions St Lawrence A lost to a ‘The Rest’ team at the weekend by eight points.
Top shot on the night was Mark Yates on 198 which was equalled by St Lawrence’s Steve Bouchard.
PETANQUE – Easter mêlée: Fred Helluer won 3 +21 to win the Carrefour Petanque Club’s Easter Mêlée on Saturday with Tim Bechelet second, won 3 +18, and Ken Luce third, won 3 +14 while Niall Fennessey picked up the booby prize, lost 3 -29.
SHOOTING – Top gun shared: Chris L’Amy and Alex Shakeshaft both took the high gun honours in Crabbé Clay Pigeon Club’s 50 Bird Sporting Practice on Sunday with a score of 44 ex 50.
Results – A Class: William Coom, 34; B Class: Adrian Fox, 35; C Class: Carl Ham-Howes, 42 – moves up to B Class; Veteran: John Bedford, 36.
SWIMMING – Swimmers take to the water: The Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club took 20 swimmers in for the first swim of the year yesterday at St Catherine’s.
Swimmers as young as seven-year-old Alana Powell braved the unseasonally warm temperature of 10.5c and Channel Apirant Denise Richards insisted her swim companions Wendy Prunty and Jenny Fitzgerald stayed in for 30 minutes.
The club’s next swim is at St Catherine’s Slipway on Sunday – meet at 10.45 am.
SHOOTING – Richardson’s practice win: Daniel Richardson won the Jersey Rifle Association’s Practice Shoot at the Crabbé range with 200 x 49.9 and 500 x 55.7 for 104.16.
W Langley was second with 49.4 and 55.9 for 104.13 while G Harris was third with 48.7 and 54.7 for 102.14.
