THE Island’s U12 football team have enjoyed an excellent start to the annual Jersey Primary Schools Festival at the FB Fields.

The Island side had a handsome 5-1 victory over first-time visitors Mondeville from Normandie on the opening day on Sunday morning, with Fraser Barlow and Jay Giles both scoring doubles and Adam Trotter a single.

They faced an altogether tougher task yesterday but were only denied another victory by a superb equaliser from Felling/East Gateshead’s Greg Olley.

Jersey had twice led through strikes from Jay Giles, but were pulled back the first time through a Conor Halpin penalty.

Haplin was also on target for a good Felling side in their opening draw against Barking, Jersey’s opponents today.

The Festival, in its 33rd year, has once again attracted excellent crowds to watch the 16 sides.

Jersey face Hackney tomorrow, kicking off at 10.15 am.
