Barking hold Jersey in Primary Football Festival

Wednesday 11th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.

JERSEY’S under-12 footballers fought out a second consecutive 2-2 draw as the annual Primary Schools’ Football Festival continued at the FB Fields yesterday morning.

Trailing 1-0 at the interval, Jersey scored twice to take the lead before conceding a sloppy second goal in the final ten minutes to share four goals with Barking.

Jersey coach Mark De Luca, who is assisted by Tony Hoyland and Rob Cameron, said: ‘We didn’t play half as well as we did on Monday against Felling but we should have finished them off when we were ahead.

‘Heading the ball seems to be a huge problem for this group while we stood off and didn’t tackle.

‘The day before against Felling it was a great game and a good performance from the Jersey lads and we should have sailed through.

‘We keep telling them this is a learning experience for them and if they can build on the previous day’s performance then that will be great.

‘We’ve had some good games with Hackney over recent years and we’re looking forward to playing them again today.’ Jersey’s goals yesterday were netted by Jay Giles and the Barking goalkeeper.

Yesterday’s results, Ash Group: Gloucester 2, Hackney 0; Sutton Coldfield 1, Waltham Forest 1.

Fir: Newbury B 1, Thurrock 9; Bishop Auckland 4, Chiltern 1.

Yew: Orpington 0, Newbury A 1; South Birmingham 0, Plymouth 0.

Oak: Mondeville 1, Felling 6; Barking 2, Jersey 2.
