St Mary says yes to building homes in green fields
Wednesday 11th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.
ANOTHER country parish has agreed to the building of homes for the elderly in green fields.
St Mary voted last night to allow 33 houses – for first-time buyers and the elderly – in fields 561 and 562 in the heart of the parish. Their decision at a packed public meeting comes after sheltered housing schemes have been developed in St Martin, Trinity, St Ouen and St John, and following Housing Minister Terry Le Main’s comments that every parish would have to do their bit to accommodate the Island’s elderly residents. Last year the minister said that green fields would have to be used to find space for the 400 homes needed in Jersey for elderly people – and St Mary last night agreed to develop two of theirs.
