A church reborn
Thursday 12th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.
A £1 MILLION restoration project has been completed at the Island’s main Roman Catholic church.
St Thomas’s has reopened its doors after being closed for more than nine months. Work began at the end of June last year and has resulted in a complete transformation. As well as as being brightened up with a repaint and new fixtures and fittings, the restoration has also included the reinstatement of the centre aisle, retiling of the sanctuary and aisles, the repositioning of the tabernacle, installation of underfloor heating, new elect-rics and better lighting. Canon Nicholas France, the Ca-tholic Dean in Jersey and priest of the Catholic parish in St Helier, said that the project had cost around £1,000,000.
