Thief and vandals caught on camera

Thursday 12th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.

THE police want Islanders to help them to track down a camera thief and car park vandals.

The police have released CCTV footage of a hooded man who stole a £130 digital camera from Boots in Queen Street on Monday 5 March and and pictures of youths in Pier Road multi-storey car park. The thief, who is thought to be in his early to mid-20s, slim and about 5 ft 8 in tall, walked into the chemist and took a lift to the first floor. He looked at various digital cameras before walking away. Returning minutes later, he picked up a boxed silver Casio Exilim model and left the store. At the time of the theft the man was wearing a woolly hat under a black hooded top with a distinctive white rhino logo on the front, blue jeans and white trainers. The police also want help to identify a group of youths who are thought to have sprayed graffiti on the walls of one of the levels of Pier Road car park on Sunday 25 March. The graffiti included the words ‘Raven’ and ‘Emma and Jack together for ever.’ Lights in the car park were also smashed. Anyone who recognises the thief or who has been offered the camera, or who can identify the youths in Pier Road, is asked to call the police on 612612 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 to give information anonymously.
