Football:Barlow hits treble

Friday 13th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.

JERSEY returned to winning ways in the Primary School’s Festival yesterday morning with a comprehensive 5-0 victory against Chiltern at the FB Fields.

Fraser Barlow scored a hat-trick with Josh Evans and substitute Dominic Blampied adding singles, the latter with an excellent strike from 35 yards.

Jersey’s victory was their second of the week, following on from consecutive 2-2 draws and a 3-0 defeat by Hackney on Wednesday.

Jersey coach Mark De Luca, who is being assisted by Tony Hoyland and Rob Cameron, said: ‘It was a very pleasing result and performance, our lads certainly lifted themselves after a disjointed showing against Hackney.

‘They played at a much higher level and scored some fine goals.

Hopefully they can finish the festival with another good performance against Plymouth.’ Jersey opened brightly against Chiltern and it wasn’t long before Chiltern goalkeeper Adam Long was in action.

Jay Giles, who showed up well on Jersey’s left in the first half, struck a good shot goalwards only for Long to push the ball against the crossbar.

Barlow fired Jersey ahead with a low shot inside an upright after a neat lay off from George Poole.

Josh Evans made it 2-0 shortly after following a flowing move involving Adam Trotter and Barlow, the latter who crossed well from the Jersey left.

Chiltern were kept at bay by some tidy defensive work from Liam Vallois, Steven Byrne, Max Vasiliou and Glen Horman while goalkeeper Matthew Kaye showed good handling skills especially with high balls.

Barlow scored his second and Jersey’s third shortly after the interval with a header from Trotter’s corner.

After Evans was denied by Long, Chiltern then failed to clear the ball and Barlow capitalised to complete a hat-trick.

Vasiliou made a timely tackle to prevent Chiltern grabbing a consolation before substitute Blampied scored from distance to complete the scoring.

Jersey subsitute Joe Kerschbaumer was twice denied adding to the score, Long making two excellent saves both when he bravely stood his ground as his opponent close in on him.

Jersey: Matthew Kaye; Glen Horman, Stephen Byrne, Max Vasiliou; Liam Vallois, George Poole, Kendal Perrée, Adam Trotter, Jay Giles; Josh Evans, Fraser Barlow.

Subs: Joe Kerschbaumer, Dominic Blampied, Connor O’Shea and Oliver Terry.
