Football:Morley happy with Trinity’s form ahead of Jeremie

TRINITY bid to retain Guernsey’s Jeremie Cup tomorrow against Priaulx League champions Northerners in Guernsey.

And Trinity manager Joe Morley is confident his squad can retain the trophy, despite missing a couple of players.

‘We were on a good run before our Le Riches Cup defeat by St Peter – we gave it away that night after leading.

‘We’ve been working hard on the training ground to get things right again since and, hopefully, we can get things together tomorrow and grind out the right result.

‘We have a couple missing and a few with minor injuries but the squad is good and I expect them to perform to the best of their ability.’ North stalwart Stuart Polson is aiming to get his teeth into Trinity tomorrow – and is praying the outcome will be less costly than the last time [he forked out £130 to a dentist after a clash with a Trinity player] when the Jersey club came from a goal down to win 2-1.

Polson said: ‘It’s going to be a tough game.

I’ve not seen Trinity this season but in the past they always seem to have a strong side and are a good footballing outfit.’ Trinity are aiming to make it a hat-trick of victories in the competition, their other success was against Grouville in 2004.

North have won the trophy 22 times outright and shared it in 1928 with First Tower.

Trinity squad: Jimmy Styles, James Hayward, John Beatson, Gerard Meadows, Chris Richards, Richard Parker, Paul Beckett, Stephen McCarter, Dave Le Roux, John Rutter, Jon Fitzmaurice, Barry Beatson, Ashley Dodd, Peter Smith, Jimmy Reilly, Darren Swanson and Graeme Ling.
