On your bike, boss!

Saturday 14th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.

STAFF at Jersey Telecom are locked in a bidding war to see who will get to tell their boss to get on his bike.

Managing director Bob Lawrence has announced that he is auctioning off his parking space to raise money for Jersey Hospice Care. For the three months that he hands his space over to one of the company’s employees, he will cycle to work. The charity auction is just one of many fund-raising ideas that staff have come up with to support the charity this year. He is hoping to raise in the region of £250. A company spokesman said: ‘Bob Lawrence is setting the ball rolling by inviting bids for his highly sought-after space at the Grenville Street offices. There is expected to be fierce competition among staff who are effectively bidding to see their managing director get on his pushbike for the next three months, with all proceeds going towards Hospice, of course.’ Mr Lawrence said: ‘As a significant local employer we are committed to supporting the community and we ask our staff to nominate one particular charity for the year. ‘Their appreciation of Hospice’s importance to so many people across the Island led staff to choose the charity.’
