No Jersey boat in Clipper race
Monday 16th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.
THE Jersey Clipper will not be taking part in this year’s round-the-world race.
Philip Jeune of the Clipper Committee said that entry costs had increased dramatically over the years and finding funding was difficult. ‘We don’t have many companies knocking on our door wanting to donate money,’ he said. ‘Although we are a wealthy Island, it’s not right to ask for government funding.’ Jersey has entered boats in three previous races, winning the 2002/2003 race and coming second in its first entry in 2000/2001.
