Phone masts put on hold

COUNTRYSIDE phone mast applications have been put on hold because phone companies are not delivering on promises to plant trees around mast sites.
Phone companies have been told to carry out landscaping work and plant mature trees around phone masts to lessen their impact, but are putting in the masts before carrying out the work. The planning permits give the companies 30 days to do the work. Environment Minister Freddie Cohen says all countryside phone mast applications are now on hold until he has gone around all the sites to check up on them.
