£487,000 heroin haul by Customs
Friday 20th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.
CUSTOMS officers believe that they have disrupted a major drugs syndicate in the Island with the seizure of over £487,000 worth of heroin this week.
In an intelligence-led operation, Customs and Immigration officers seized about nine ounces of heroin – the largest seizure of the drug so far this year – as well as an amount of cash from a house in St Helier on Wednesday. Customs assistant director Mark Cockerham said that this was a significant seizure which had disrupted a major syndicate operating within the Island. He said: ‘We believe that this heroin came from the UK, and intelligence sources indicate that the UK and Portugal are the main source areas of heroin for Jersey.’
