New drive to cut spending

A CAMPAIGN to force the States to cut public spending has been relaunched by the Seven Angry Men pressure group.

Three years after organising a 2,500-strong Budget protest rally in the Royal Square, the group of Island businessmen are reforming over what they call broken prom-ises to reduce States spending. Spokesman Roger Trower, the managing director of Broadlands estate agents, said that the States’ failure to control spending affected every Islander, rich or poor, because the money was coming out of their pockets. States expenditure has topped the half-billion-pound mark at £523m this year – almost £5,900 for every man, woman and child in the Island.
