Sunday elections to beat voters’ apathy?

JERSEY could take a lead from the French in combating voter apathy.

More than eight out of ten voters turned out in the first round of the French presidential elections – a figure which puts Jersey’s electoral turnouts to shame. And weekend voting could help change that, according to Privileges and Procedures chairman Derek Gray. He says that after the States reform debate on 1 May, Privileges should turn their attention to where and when Islanders go to the polls.
