Phone masts? I lose no sleep, says minister
Tuesday 24th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.
ENVIRONMENT Minister Freddie Cohen has told anti-phone mast protesters that he has ‘lost no sleep’ about the fact that one is sit-uated near his own house.
More than 80 protesters holding signs saying ‘Keep Me Cancer Free’ attended a meeting at the Town Hall over the siting of an Airtel mast on the Washington Hotel in Clarendon Road. Senator Cohen told the street’s residents – including the Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft – that health issues were not up to him and all he could do was limit the visual impact of the phone masts in their street. ‘I have a big mast next to my house and I haven’t lost any sleep over it – but that may be because I have a more balanced view,’ said Senator Cohen, who lives in St John. ‘Health issues are not up to me. I’m not capable of evaluating health risks. I ask the Health Protection department for advice.’
