St Martin home damaged in fire
Tuesday 24th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.
THE top floor of a house in St Martin was badly damaged by fire last night.
It started in a waste paper bin in an upstairs office at around 10.30 pm and quickly spread to the desk and flooring. The occupants were downstairs at the time and discovered the fire after smelling smoke. One of them closed all the upstairs doors – an action which helped contain the fire and stop smoke damage – and called the Fire Service. Two engines carrying nine firefighters rushed to the property. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went upstairs and quickly put out the fire. Officers then set up a ventilation fan to blow the dense black smoke out of the house.
