Call for ‘Senatorial failures’ to be barred from elections for Deputy

FAILED Senatorial candidates could be barred from standing as Deputies in the same year.
The move by Deputy John Le Fondré would prevent election hopefuls from having a ‘second bite of the cherry’. In the 2005 elections, Deputies Paul Le Claire, Geoff Southern and Guy de Faye failed to win an all-Island mandate but then successfully ran as Deputies. Late amendments have been submitted ahead of Tuesday’s debate on composition reform in the States by Deputies Le Fondré and Alan Breckon. If approved by the States the amendments would: Establish a general election for all States Members. Restrict all candidates to a single class of membership.
