Drugs runner jailed in France
Friday 27th April 2007, 12:00AM BST.
A JERSEY fisherman turned international drugs smuggler was jailed for six years yesterday in Rennes for his part in a million pound cannabis deal.
The smuggling operation, between the Costa del Sol and the Island and said to have involved the Russian mafia, was foiled by a combined French and Jersey Customs operation. Jersey Customs say that they have taken out one of the biggest drug suppliers in the Island. Mark Fourdan, said to have masterminded the Jersey end of the operation, and described by his own counsel as heavy-drinking and violent, was also fined 110,000 euros and banned from setting foot on French soil for ten years after his release from prison.
