Finance industry aims to take lead in Europe

JERSEY is aiming to become Europe’s leading offshore finance centre, delegates at the sixth annual conference held in London by Jersey Finance Limited were told this week.
Not surprisingly, all seven speakers at the conference, which attracted a large audience from leading firms in the City of London, presented a very optimistic picture of Jersey’s economic future but they also met head-on the challenges facing the Island.
Economic Development Minister Senator Philip Ozouf, said that the Island was setting the ‘Gold Standard’ for offshore finance centres, but he also addressed the Island’s skills shortages.
Jersey was open for business with a thousand new jobs added to the finance sector last year but it is also open for careers, he said, and he urged Jersey graduates to consider returning to the Island where they faced a bright future and could gain valuable international experience.
