New agreements are reached with Canada and Ireland

THE Island’s financial services regulator has announced two new Memoranda of Understanding (MOU).
The Jersey Financial Services Commission last week sealed an agreement with the Superintendent of Financial Institutions in Canada.
And earlier this week a similar agreement was established with the Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority.
Both agreements establish a formal framework for exchange of information between the two regulators, in order to protect investors, policyholders and depositors and to promote the integrity of financial services.
By signing the memoranda regulators commit themselves to help their counterparts, within the limits of their own laws, and also establish procedures and contacts so that requests for information can be handled efficiently.
