Town Park: States ‘are not trying hard enough’

THE Millennium Town Park could be ready in two years if ministers tried harder, according to St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft.
He says that the park could be ready by 2009, two years earlier than ministers say it can be. He believes that the States could cover the resultant loss of 600 spaces in the Gas Place and Talman car parks with ‘a bit of creative thinking’. And the Constable, who chairs the urban task force, wants to know why £500,000 has been quietly ‘loaned’ out of the Town Park budget to fund landscaping improvements on Victoria Avenue, to be paid back by Transport and Housing in 2011, without States approval. ‘I am concerned that the Council of Ministers may have been spending money out of the Millennium Town Park fund to carry out road improvements without telling us.
