Few found with undersize catch in latest fishery check
Saturday 1st September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
FISHERIES officers checked the catch of more than 25 boats on Thursday to make sure undersize fish and shellfish were not being kept.
Patrols were carried out at both the Ecréhous and the Minquiers, where both French and Jersey boats were checked on the very low spring tide. Simon Bossy, the head of fisheries and marine resources at the Environment Department, said that 20 boats were checked at the Ecréhous and five at the Minquiers. As well as checking catch sizes, cards were given out with information about what could be kept on. ‘There were a few minor incidents, with people taking a few undersize shrimps, but I think it would be fair to say that there were no incidents which would result in a court appearance,’ Mr Bossy said. ‘That is a fairly reasonable result.’
