l Harold and Nona: Celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary
Saturday 1st September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
A MANCHESTER couple for whom Jersey is almost a second home celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in the Island this week.
Nona Walker (84) and her husband Harold (93) toasted their special day over lunch at the Royal Yacht and went to the Opera House to see ‘Lady Salsa’ that night. Mrs Walker has visited the Island twice a year since around 1951, although she has only been joined by her husband for the past 12 years. During their visits the pair have always stayed at the West Hill Hotel and have kept in touch with two generations of its owners. ‘We usually come to Jersey at Easter and at the end of September, for ten days at a time, but my son paid for this visit as an anniversary treat,’ said Mrs Walker. ‘We shall probably be back next Easter, all being well.’
