Chichester rugby coach rates Jersey’s chances

FOLLOWING their 41-3 win against Chichester at St Peter on Saturday, Jersey have the makings of a London Division I side.

That might not be the opinion of a 200-strong Island crowd who saw Jersey play well, albeit in fits and starts, but Chichester 1st team coach Paul Colley reckons that Jersey will be in the reckoning for promotion come May next year.

‘This is the third game we’ve played against them and without doubt this was the strongest team they’ve put out.

I’m sure they’ll be there at the top of the league.

We’ve a much younger side’ (apart from a 28-year-old and a 40-year-old, the average age of his team was under 24), ‘but Jersey’s experience showed through, which tells us we’ve a long way to go if we want to win promotion.’ While Chichester are pushing for a way out of London South East III, Jersey, a division above them, are aiming to push back the boundaries to win promotion into London I.

On this evidence they have the potential but despite the comfortable scoreline they still have a great deal of work to do.
