De Gruchy’s arcade reopens for business

THE latest phase of the refurbishment of De Gruchy’s department store has been completed.
The arcade, which dates from 1833, was formally reopened at a champagne reception for invited guests on Wednesday evening after nearly three months under wraps.
The new decor is in cream and burgundy and there are new chandeliers and lighting, but the flooring has not changed.
Work has been carried out on the roof and guttering and some of the dividing wall has been removed for access into the main store on either side.
‘It has been designed to give a feeling of opulence, life and theatre,’ said store manager Nicola Taylor.
‘We wanted it to set the scene.
