MOTOCROSS – Mills bombs round Sorel: The second half of the Motocross season got under way in superb conditions at Sorel yesterday, with the Eastern Joinery Ltd Trophy for the small wheel 85 cc class being won by Charley Mills, with Lee Le Viellez runner up and Toby Luce third.
Dominic Cauvain won his very first Grand Final after a tough battle with Declan Hussey.
SOFTBALL – Guernsey regain honours: Guernsey won the slowpitch Muratti for the first time since 2002 yesterday at Beau Sejour as they beat Jersey 17-9.
The Guernsey B team made it a double as they beat Jersey B 19-14.
CYCLING – Cann sprints to win: CCC’s Ali Cann won the bunch sprint in the combined division I and II of yesterday’s Velo Sport Jersey road race which was moved to the Bal Tap circuit at the last minute.
VSJ’s Jim Garret and Peter Ilton took second and third respectively.
It was a VSJ one-two-three as Craig Meredith chalked up his first road race win in division III, just managing to hold off a charging Adrian Rowland; Alex Blampied was third.
GOLF – Taylor stages win: Will Taylor, 5 handicap, won the Royal Jersey Golf Club Theatre Cup on Saturday with a gross 68, net 63, taking the honours on count back from Tim Herbert, 17 hcp (gross 80), and Dan Scriven, 16 hcp gross 79.
SHOOTING – Harris equals record: Graeme Harris equalled the Crabbé record, top scoring with 105.20 in a Jersey Rifle Association practice shoot.
Alan Le Sueur scored 102.9 and Dennis Le Vesconte 99.10.
PETANQUE – Fennessy and Jéhan win: Eunice Jéhan won the ladies’ event at the Carrefour Pétanque Club Christopher James Products singles competition on Saturday.
Played at the Nicole Centre, Le Couvent, Jéhan (6 wins +23) won with Jill Gayet (5 wins + 24) second and Ruth Perrée (4 wins +11) third.
In the men’s event, Niall Fennessy beat Tim Bechelet 13-11 in the final to retain the trophy for the third consecutive year.
Chris Romeril beat Roy Langlois 13-12 in the third place play off.
WHIPPET RACING – Jetstream whips up a storm: Jenny Thomas’ 7-year-old Jetstream held off much younger opposition in the main final to win the Jersey Pedigree Whippet Racing Club’s September Handicap Shield.
Run over 100 yards at Les Landes race course yesterday, Zoe and Jeff Tennet’s Cassandra took second.
Kalele (Doreen and Martin Garnier) took third and Missy (Kate Dickson) fourth.
Steve Lawson’s Coyote regained the prestigious Presidents Trophy, run over 220 yards uphill, and last year’s winner Cappucina – Coyote’s sister – took second.
Missy took third and Kalele fourth.
Veteran of the day was Magic (Alison and John Garnier).
