Shock at Methodist minister’s sudden death

Monday 3rd September 2007, 12:00AM BST.

THE Methodist minister for the west of the Island, the Rev Malcolm Bailey, died suddenly on Friday afternoon.

He collapsed, it is believed from a heart attack, shortly after playing on the beach with his grandchildren who were on holiday with their parents from Guernsey. Mr Bailey, who was 54, was responsible for the four churches of St Ouen, Philadelphie, Bethlehem and Bethesda, as well as serving as the chaplain at the Stuart Court Methodist home in St Lawrence. Last night parishioners attended a service at St Ouen’s Methodist Church to remember him. The Rev David Coote, head of Jersey’s Methodist church, paid tribute, saying: ‘Malcolm made a very big impression on his churches. He was a man of deep and passionate faith who is going to be extremely missed and will be a great loss to the community.’
