Big shake-up for justice system

MORE prisoners will be released early with electronic tags under new plans published today by the Home Affairs Minister.
The proposed Criminal Justice Policy, which has been four years in the making, would be the first of its kind for the Island. It includes plans for a Police Authority which would have responsibility for policing policy in the Island – a decade after the principle was first approved by the States. The laws paving the way for the authority will be drawn up next year. The new policy is based on nine ‘pillars’ of criminal justice, including intervention, enforcement, prosecution and dealing with offenders.
