Halksworth a tri hit in Hamburg
Tuesday 4th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY’S Daniel Halksworth finished 19th in the 20-24 years’ class of the ITU Age Group World Triathlon Championships on Sunday.
The 21-year-old, who won individual triathlon silver and team gold in the Rhodes Island Games, was fifth fastest after the 1.5k swim in Hamburg and completed the 40k bike section in 1.02.10 hr, finishing his 10k run in 36.26 min to place 19th out of 109 in a time of 2.04.14 hr.
Halksworth finished 50th overall in a combined field of 1,072.
An excellent performance from a youngster who is a relative newcomer to the sport having spent most of his career in competitive swimming, a sport he represented Jersey at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
Meanwhile five Jersey triathletes raced in the half-ironman in Monaco on the same day.
Paul Clements, Chris Westcott, Paul Pirouet, Anthony Smith and Ben Cooke all completed the 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile cycle ride and 13.1 mile run on a very demanding course in temperatures up to 30 degrees.
