JERSEY SPARTAN thrower Jamie Stevenson has moved to Loughborough to further his already sparking athletics career.

The towering 17-year-old shot and discus thrower, pictured left, will return for this weekend’s inter-insular match against Guernsey, but has, with strong advice from his new coach Geoff Capes, decided to take advantage of Loughborough’s superb sporting set-up to further his career.

The now former Highlands student was in action for Scotland under-20s in the Inter Territorial meeting at Copthall on Sunday, finishing second in the shot with a putt of 16.47m.

That is below his personal best of 16.60, but a fouled putt of well over 17 and a half metres gives clear indication of his promise.

He lost out to the far older Jay Thomas of England, but helped Scotland to overall victory Rhodes Island Games silver medallist Stevenson, an age group winner at national level, will be studying for his diploma in sport and performance.
