Last ministerial meeting – but who for?

Thursday 6th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.

TODAY’S Council of Ministers meeting is likely to be the last for the current group of ministers.

Health Minister Stuart Syvret is expected to attend, but he could be dismissed next week if the States debate the no-confidence motion in him. If he wins that vote, it is understood that Chief Minister Frank Walker will lead a mass resignation, although he has declined to comment on whether he would step down. While it is believed that ministers have not formally discussed what they will do if the dismissal motion against the Health Minister fails, several ministers have said informally that they would have no choice but to resign. Today’s meeting at Cyril Le Marquand House, will consider reports into child protection, the implementation of a goods and services tax, the Waterfront development, environmental taxes, the citizenship programme, ministerial responses to Scrutiny reports and an update on strategic initiatives. All the items are on the ‘B’ or secret part of the agenda.
