Constables’ terms could be back to three years

ONE of only two electoral changes agreed by the States this year could be reversed.
The Privileges and Procedures Committee say they want to rescind the decision to extend Constables’ terms of office from three to four years. July’s three-day debate on reforming the States saw proposals to remove Senators and Constables rejected by the Chamber, who also dismissed suggestions for a referendum, a ‘super-constituency’ model and changes to electoral terms. The only two proposals that were approved were the extension of Constables’ terms and the moving of their elections to a single day. But Privileges now say they want to reverse the extension of the Constables’ terms.
