Man suffers from cold hiding from police in boat
Monday 10th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
A MAN was found hiding on a boat last night suffering from hypothermia after jumping into the Harbour to escape from the police.
The chase began when officers saw the 20-year-old riding a moped erratically at around 9.20 pm along Commercial Buildings. It is understood that he started wading into the English Harbour, near South Pier Marine, in a vain bid to get away. The police officers called the Fire Service at 9.30 pm, who launched its inshore rescue boat with police officers aboard at 9.50 pm. The firefighters found the man hiding on a boat ten minutes later. He was taken to the Hospital by ambulance, which met the inshore rescue boat at the Fishermen’s Quay, behind Driver and Vehicle Standards. After a check-up, he was taken to the police station for questioning.
