Telecom challenge JCRA on number portability
Monday 10th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY Telecom have challenged the Island’s competition watchdog over so-called number portability.
The States-owned company is taking the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority to the Royal Court. The board of Jersey Telecom has decided to challenge a final notice from the JCRA which states that customers should be able to take their mobile number with them if they switch suppliers by February. The new companies in the mobile market say it is an important step towards fair competition. The JCRA issued an instruction to Jersey Telecom, Cable & Wireless, and Airtel-Vodafone to work together to ensure that mobile number portability (MNP) is available to consumers by 12 February at the latest.
