More new tiles are laid after pool slip-ups
Tuesday 11th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
THE women’s changing-room at Les Quennevais swimming pool will be closed today to repair new tiles which were only recently laid.
Yesterday, work was carried out on the men’s changing area after 15 customers complained that they had slipped on the new surface. Tests have revealed that the new tiles may not have been cleaned properly, causing the surface to become slippery. A decision was made on Friday to call in the contractors. The pool had just reopened after a £75,000 refurbishment. David Bisson, head of operations for Education, Sport and Culture, said: ‘Contractors will be doing remedial work on the tiles and the women’s changing-room will be open tomorrow. It looks as if the surface of the tiles had not been cleaned correctly. Customers felt uncertain because the tiles felt different, but they have now got used to the new floor. We have had no more reports of incidents.’ The tile manufacturer said that the design was suitable for a changing-room and they were not faulty. Women can use the mother and baby area to change while the work is carried out.
