Football:Crick returns to fire Scots clear
Wednesday 12th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
ISLAND striker Ross Crick, ruled out of last Saturday’s defeat against the Guernsey Priaulx League, roared back at Springfield last night to score his second double of the season for reigning champions Jersey Scottish.
Crick opened the scoring in a 6-0 rout of newly-promoted Jersey Wanderers, which lifts Scottish three points clear in Coca-Cola Combination Division I after two wins and a draw.
Wanderers, having only played two games, are pushed down to the bottom of the pile on goal difference.
Scottish manager Pat Brennan thought his side took a long time to get the rewards their possession and pressure warranted, with the CI champs only leading 2-0 at the break, with young midfield start Jack Boyle also on target.
With the likes of Mark Brown and Lee Burns still missing from their starting line-up, Scottish pressed on to score through a tremendous Scott Devlin header, another from Crick, a looping header from Ruebin Legge and one from substitute Charlie Franks.
Beeches Old Boys won the all Division II clash against St Lawrence last night, to earn a Willis Cup quarter-final round tie next month against St Martin/SCF or St Paul’s Reserves.
Goals from Andy McKnight, penalty, and Hamlyn Moon earned Beeches a 2-0 victory in the first round match at St Lawrence.
Jersey Scottish Reserves are scheduled to take on Grouville Reserves in a Willis preliminary round match at Les Quennevais tonight, 7.30.
Division I sides Portuguese Club and Trinity clash in a preliminary round of Wheway Cup at Springfield tomorrow night, kick-off at 7.30.
