RAF man’s old coins donated to Mile of Pennies fund

A LARGE flag will be flying high over West Park tomorrow to remember retired Flight Lieutenant Robert Trigg, who died in February.

His collection of old coins has been donated to the Royal Air Forces Association’s Mile of Pennies appeal by his widow Angela. Mrs Trigg said: ‘My husband was a keen coin collector, and when he retired from the RAF he made doll’s houses and embedded a penny into them. He called them penny doll’s houses. ‘I found three bags of his old shillings when I moved house, so I decided to donate the coins and also made a donation to the RAF. My husband would have been delighted. The RAF was his passion.’ Lt Trigg was a pilot for 16 years on Canberra aircraft, but died suddenly this year from a rare form of lung cancer just before his 74th birthday.
