Snooker:Jersey beat France after English lesson

Wednesday 12th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.

JERSEY were beaten 18-0 by England in snooker’s Home Internationals yesterday but bounced back to defeat France 10-8 in Prestatyn, Wales.

The JBSA side failed to take any frames off England but will have learned from playing such a high class team.

Karl Softly came closest to taking a point as he forced David Grace to a black ball game, losing the frame 61-58.

Gary Britton was forced to watch Craig Steadman’s 140 clearance and Karl Le Fevre left to take in Michael Wild’s 89.

However, Jersey then came alive in their first evening match against France.

Britton, on first, was in rampant form and made a break of 71 to win the opening frame, breaking 39 to take the second 67-8, and 73 to take the third 81-12.

Man of the match Ray Kilmartin was on fire to win the first frame 78-21 with a 50 break, continuing his superb form to win the second 90-0 and securing a 39 break for the third 60-52.

Aaron Canavan lost his first frame but came back to win his second 62-42 and third 61-6 while Chris Alexander lost his three leaving Jersey with an 8-7 lead.

Le Fevre secured his first frame 49-37 but lost the second 72-50; in a crucial deciding frame he was able to win the match on a respot black 56-49 to hand Jersey their second win.

The Island side today take on Scotland and then, interestingly for a Home International contest, Qatar!
